On Marie Wilhelmine Anders‘ magnificent album \u2018Travels\u2019 (Broque 136), \u2018Fire\u2019 already surprised listeners with a hybrid sound that moves between drum & bass and techno. It’s a track so multifaceted that Marie found it exciting to hand it over to the drum & bass scene for remixes. Marie was able to recruit producers who, like she did on her last album \u201eFrozen Music\u201c (Broque 148), create a DnB sound that draws heavily on the late 90s, when both atmospheric DnB variations and techstep were all the rage. 88 Katanas and Offish focus in particular on the techstep side of the track, with an industrial-sounding DnB sound that pays monumental tribute to the pioneers of the sound such as Ed Rush and Optical. Illuvia and Art Cuebik take a more atmospheric approach, drawing inspiration from the LTJ Bukem side of late 90s D&B, which managed to combine energetic beats with an ambient mood, making it work both on the main floor and in chillout spaces. Together with the original, the four remixes explore the D&B potential of \u2018Fire\u2019 with a great deal of empathy and attention to detail, converging on a wonderfully coherent EP that looks both forward and respectfully to the past.\n<\/p>\n
