Nils Hoffmann, geb. 1976 in Bremen, hat eine turbulente musikalische Reise hinter sich: Seine Computersounds vermischten sich in diesem Jahr mit traditioneller, amerikanischer Musik aus den Appalachen (mit Nathaniel Damon an Banjo und Geige), mit Benjamin Brunn und Florian Stender (letzterer zu hören auf „new bad summer“, einem Stück über die französische Revolution… ) produzierte er elektronische Musik, zum Beatles-Jubiläum zerhackstückelte er die Musik der vier Liverpooler bei den offiziellen Feierlichkeiten. Als Musiker, DJ, Produzent und Remixer schwimmen bei ihm alle Musikstile wie zwinkernde Fettaugen auf einer kräftigen Beat-Brühe. Dass Hoffmann nebenher als Dozent und Lern-DVD-Autor für die Musiksoftware „ableton live“ arbeitet, ist seinen Stücken durchaus anzumerken. Ebenso wenig gelingt es ihm, seine Vorliebe für frühen Jazz und Orchestermusik zu verbergen, die ihn seit seinem klassischen Musikstudium immer wieder in die Livemusikklubs verschlug. Seit einem New York-Besuch im Frühjahr 2010 und unter dem Einfluß der dortigen Jazzszene entstanden eine Reihe von „improvisierten“ Elektro-Stücken („manhatten monday“). Dass Nils vor zwanzig Jahren als Songwriter in Rockbands unterwegs war und bis heute als Gitarrenlehrer aktiv ist, erklärt vermutlich immer noch die Entstehung der letzten beiden Stücke der EP („Ohrenschützer“ und „Die geilste Sau der Welt“). Immer zwei Schritte neben dem Mainstream rüttelt die Nachfolge-EP von Nils Hoffmanns „kurz & klein“-EP auf „broque“ an der einsetzenden Winterdepression, dank liebevoller Kleinarbeit ein spätsommerliches Wärmekissen des Elektroswings.
